    People don't question or call headphone cables snake oil. USB cables, headphone cables, they are both simply a series of wires and insulating material, yet Many people are calling high-end USB cables snake oil, without hearing them in person. Sceptical people should consider this.

  • @MaZEEZaM
    @MaZEEZaM 4 години тому

    Personally, I would never consider giving an opinion on high-end IEM's simply because I cannot hear them myself. So Why would I offer an opinion either way on this cable? I wouldn't, especially because I am aware that the likely only way I could possibly hear a difference between usb cables, would be by using a very high-end system where the fine nuances between components can be heard.

  • @MaZEEZaM
    @MaZEEZaM 4 години тому

    So many negative comments, i bet none of you have had the opportunity to compare these cables on a similar system. It's a bit rich that we trust that he can hear the intricate differences between high end audio components and yet you don't trust his ears and brain when comparing high quality cables. I would point out that both are made up of tiny electrical wires and electrical components.

    • @PassionforSound

      I don't know funktion one, but most horn speakers for PA, etc. are placed in front of the driver so you see the horn, not the driver. These do the opposite and put the horn off the back of the driver.

    Just picked up a pair. Primarily based on your review, along with a couple of other reviews. My take... Setup: Macbook Pro w Apple Dongle and eqMac playing Spotify. Switched to foam tips that were not provided. Music: Classical, Jazz, Rock, Electronic, pretty much everything but Country and Western.... Straight w no EQ, sounds great, but bass was there but thin. Adding EQ was mixed. ( Some of the presets were 'meh' and made the sound worse.) On some music enhancing the bass started to cause distortion. Just .5db at 32Hz and then ~3.5db at 64Hz seemed best for me. (Note: After 20+ hours of listening... seems that the distortion has gone away. Maybe this counts as burn in? ) Played some classic rock (Black Sabbath (Iron Man, War Pigs for example.) Sounded great w no EQ. Better w my bass settings. After some burn in, EQ'd bass booster was ok too. Separation was great. Music was clear. I mean like really good. Pretty much what you and the other reviewers have said were true. The negatives... 1) Carrying case too big to fit in pocket. Ok if traveling w EDC work bag. 2) When I unboxed cable was hard to tell L from R. And then trying to see which unit was L or R. (Manual wasn't much of a help.) Overall, love them so far.

    Let's all be adults together and order ourselvs a 20K USB cable and a gold plated cigar. I don't know how the cigar changes the sound... but neither did [big names here] know [super important discoveries they did describe in detail later]. However, I heard it. So everyone basically knows its real now though. Suck on that.

    1. There is a reason why audiophiles are called audiophools. 2. The lack of knowledge with audiophools is astonishing. 3. Audiophools know nothing, assume everything, and their "love for music" is just an excuse for making baseless, mostly insane and fully idiotic claims. Study physics, at least some. It prevents tp be received as complete idi0t. 4. And at last, if nothing works with the audience, the audiophool retreats to the stupidest argument and the opposite of scientific research ever: it' all about what you like, it's all subjective. I tell you what: It's not. Every audiophool is a know nothing but wants to know everything, will gain not a shred of knowledge in his whole life, because he will search on and on chasing a non-existing no-knowledge idiocy. So your decision is well received: one idi0t less "on air". Bye!

    I always felt USB cables in itself were the problem due to them being a transmission line. The best is no cable which I realised with the Uptone USPCB A to B adapters. They feel totally neutral than any of the USB cables I had. Of course, these adapters are hard to work with due to the small size.

    Well it's nice that they sound great with cable and a DAC but you buy these for portable use. If you sit at home I see no reason not to spend those money on a pair of passive headphones and a dac. Even using the same money e.g., the Aiyima DAC A5 Max and a pair of AKG K702 will sound way clearer. For portable use though I doubt there are much better ANC headphones out there.

    The profit on those must be in the order of $2,200 net clear profit. Impossible to spend thousands of dollars building a tiny object like that. Audio engineers are not fed on gold bars and liquid platinum, they do their work for normal salaries. The construction materials are basic metals and plastics. Even bespoke membranes for drivers just don't cost that much. Give me chifi gear, any day.

    • @mikeg2491
      @mikeg2491 12 годин тому

      If it’s that simple and cheap to R&D why doesn’t any chifi companies build a Susvara clone for $200?

    • @wahid-lg1kk
      @wahid-lg1kk 11 годин тому

      @@mikeg2491 I didn't say it was simple and cheap. I said people get normal salaries, they are not paid in gold bars. Profit taking is immense with these companies. I meant I would spend 300 on parts, I would have to sell it for 600ish, wouldn't I? Check what's out there in chifi for 600. Just making a point. This is why chifi is booming, more and more people realise you don't need to spend thousands to get amazing sound.

    • @mikeg2491
      @mikeg2491 7 годин тому

      @@wahid-lg1kk 100% agree you don’t need to spend a lot of money to have a premium audio experience. But R&D costs money, it’s like evaluating the cost of a videogame just because it comes on a nickel’s worth of plastic. I’m sure Hifiman spent millions of dollars and thousands of man hours developing their higher tier headphones for instance even if the raw costs are minimal.

    • @PassionforSound
      @PassionforSound 5 годин тому

      Well said a very true, Mike. Many of the products we buy have required multiple years from multiple people to design them and then there's distribution and marketing costs. No product is just the sum of its parts.

    • @wahid-lg1kk
      @wahid-lg1kk 2 години тому

      @@mikeg2491 Millions of dollars? No. I have run large companies, it's not that expensive. Audio research is mostly desk study, you need a few basic audio lab setups, and access to materials for prototypes, but the expenditures are not that big. That's why I said the labrats are not paid in gold bars, they get normal salaries, and that's the biggest expense. There is massive profit taking, which is justified as 'brand value'. In other words, you pay a lot for the name. Yes the R&D is significant added value, but it's not that big. It just isn't. I ran a Reebok shoe factory, as an example, we would spend 20k to develop a new shoe, with all the studies and science involved, 20k. Then we would buy molds for the rubber parts, etc. Still less then 100k. Out cost for production of a pair of Reebok shoes was around $7, including all that stuff. Headphone companies are no different. Max $300 to make any headphone. That includes all the R&D.

    I see you add the Aune s17 pro for an amp option. How does m1 compare to the Aune S9c pro?

    I'm guessing the designer might be mixing analogue & digital volume controls to keep a good bit depth - just a thought

      No. It's 100% digital as far as I understand. There are lots of digital, lossless volume solutions these days (e.g. all modern DAC chips). The role of the analog is just to signal the volume level and that's it, based on what I took from Anson's email about it.

    It was when you said the IFI gear was like some "poor man hifi stuff"

      Who said that? I definitely haven't because I don't have access to review iFi gear.

    is the Amp powerful enough to drive high impedance headphones?

    For a baked-in sound signature maybe. But for that price my money would go to the RME ADI-2/4 Pro SE and would stay that way for a very long time. I also have the ADI-2 DACfs (old AKM version) that doubles as my transportable AIO desktop solution when I go for long/month long vacations. RME's software support is a gold standard too, one that Dethonray and other hi-fi based brands usually lack. Positively, Dethonray never fail to impress when it comes to their sound. Great review!

      Having tried the ADI-2 FS, this is leagues ahead, but of course doesn't have the features and controls of the RME.

    I think you have to offer genuine sophistication for that price.

    For anyone tried the both units this is better than mjolnir 3. Especially how it drives high impedance cans compared to schiit unit. I have a beyerdynamic T1 V1 headphone set. Both are not good as for ex Violectric 222 on that but for me S17 is the winner overall of this 3. Great for its price. Dac i use is gustard r26. 😊

    I think it's perfectly fine to have a good time doing experiments like this, even though I am firmly in the camp of digital wires have no sound. I am sure I would think I heard differences at times as well.

    No high-end format can survive when 99% of the buying consumer have no need for it, audiophiles at speck in recorded music sales, SACD was better than MQA and that did not catch on, but it is still around more than MQA. Look where most of the world gets their music from; it is not high-end audio. And I am an audiophile. If SACD did not catch on and become the norm MQA had no chance, there is not enough demand to make it worthwhile for recording companies.

    Why not compare it to the Hugo 2? Would it reflect badly on it, a head to head?
